I actually lost a pound while out of town!!! That has NEVER happened before!!!!!
In the past i have GAINED 5-10 lbs in one weekend out of town because of all the salt, sugar, grease and preservatives in foods that i would eat going out to restaurants or a "home cooked meal". it would take me 1-2 weeks to get that weight off and of course i would get depressed about- how could i let myself ruin a months work in 3 days! this time i was determined not to let that happen..... even with my mother-in-laws guilt trips (and she did try).
I had my huny bbq my pomegranate red wine vinegar marinade chicken (http://365dayslimdowncountdown.blogspot.com/2011/08/day-88-recipe-friday-pomegranate.html), i cooked sirloin burgers, packed whole wheat bread (easier to handle on a trip), bagged up a couple days worth of D fine and bagged up some baked zucchini & yellow squash. i had to stop by the store before we left town to pick up some bottled water and protein bars. (which saved me from sudden doom later on in the weekend.)
we ate breakfast before we left @ 7:30 in the morning and got to my mom's in Auburn, WA about 12:30 pm and visited for a few hrs before we headed to the in-laws to get settled.
When we arrived my mother-in-law took one look at me and said- i see you lost weight again. what are you doing this time? so i told her about how i do not ingest loads of sugar and salt, i do not eat fast food or go to restaurants and that i am eating for my body & energy, not my emotions or feelings. she then said- so can you have KFC? that is what WE are having for dinner tonight. i replied- No thank you.... i brought my own. she came back with- well can't you just take the skin off? so instead of letting her know that taking the skin off doesn't take away all grease it is fried in or the sugars & salts in the batter. but instead i just replied- no thank you, i prefer to eat what i brought. Ron worked very hard on cooking it for me.
The rest of the weekend was semi simple. there was a moment at the family reunion where i avoided the food all together, it smelled so good and there were sooooo many desserts that all looked so very yummy. later in the evening when out with my friends there was 3 b-days and 3 b-day cakes. needless to say i avoided that area as well. i brought a protein bar with me just in case, and it saved me from wanting to eat something else.
Sunday morning my mother-in-law wanted to go to Old Country Buffet for breakfast... one problem, no breakfast foods i can eat. everything is fried, cooked in grease, has too much sugar, etc. So i went with the old stand by of salad bar at 9 am on a Sunday morning. Mother-in-law tried to tempt me by saying how delicious everything was, but i was not swayed by her what so ever. all i could smell was salt and sugar in the air and on their plates. even though my mother-in law made comments about what i was eating, i did not make comments back about what she was eating.
on the way home i had a chicken sandwich from my packed food and stopped on the way back and got some water and Vege Booty. i know it is not in my food plan, but it is very low in sodium, sugar, calories and tastes yummy while getting veges in a corn/rice air puff. this is what i bring to parties, because i know it is "safe" for me to eat and cheap!
got home safe and sound..... knowing we will have to go back in a month or so to help my mom put on a new roof on her house.
